Time to Chill

Celebrate our 6th Annual Summer Snow Day with us on Sunday, August 9th!

By this time of year, we have completely lost our ability to tolerate the heat.  Six years ago, we created a fun little brain hack that would allow us to imagine, if only for one day, that it was a beautifully chilly day outside.  It’s silly.  It doesn’t prevent disease or bring world peace.  But it makes us happy.  And over the last six years, it has been making our immediate friends and family happy as well.  This year, you’re invited.  Crank up your fake fireplace DVD, and let’s do this.

how-to-participate

How to Participate

Blast the A.C.

First step to pretending it’s cold outside is to set the air conditioning to “shiver”. Pull out your favorite winter sweater and feel the brrrrrr.

Set the Mood

Dust off you favorite cheesy holiday CD’s or film. No one will judge you if you prefer “Elf” over “It’s A Wonderful Life.”

Mix up your favorite holiday recipes

Put the diet on hold for one day. We share some of the best holiday cookie recipes below.

Clear your calendar

This day is about doing nothing whatsoever other than cuddling up under the blankets and wishing the summer away. Unless “doing something” involves creating fake snowballs. That’s allowed.

Invite your friends

You don’t want to be the only one of your friends who is gleefully chilly on this day, do you? No. You don’t. Because you care.  Spread the word, folks.

Share your creations

Cool down the internet by sharing images of your Summer Snow Day traditions, hashtag #summersnowday.

Marisa’s Playlist

We recently had the pleasure of taking some photos of one of the coolest moms in town – Marisa Langford – and her four kids in and around the Downtown Tampa area. Marisa (aka TampaMama) is travel writer for Trekaroo’s and is the Destination Guroo for Florida.

Born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, this Tampa-based mom of four is always longing for cold winter days, snow days and a winter chill in the air. She is able to spend a few weeks in the winter playing in the snow with her kids because her family still lives up North in Chicago, Illinois.

Here is Marisa’s “playlist” of Summer Snow Day activities you can do with your kids!

  • Make Cookies

  • Make boxes (for cookies) to wrap and give to others as gifts.

  • Make cards that go along with the gifts.

  • Make eggnog.

  • Turn on the fire place DVD.

  • Turn up the holiday music.

  • Go Ice Skating at an indoor rink.

  • Clean out the closets and organize your winter wardrobe.

  • Make a Winter Wreath- Shopping off season will be cheaper and you’ll be ready for December when the month finally does come around.

  • Volunteer at a Food Bank- Volunteering tends to rise during the winter and slow during summer.

  • Make Chili for dinner. ANY comfort food!

  • Hot chocolate for breakfast!

  • Pillow Forts!

Our favorite holiday tradition involves the baking of a ridiculous amount of Czech holiday cookies.  We’re happy to present the recipes for those cookies here, with a little help from our friends.

We are Pavel + Jessie Stehlik – photographers, storytellers, and lovers of life.  Pavel is a native of the Czech Republic and Jessie is a native Floridian, but we equally share a love of the cold.  And of cookies.  On cooler days, we can be spotted taking photos around Downtown Tampa where we live with a crazy, fluffy puppy who enjoys spending her days eating shoes and table corners.
